We have one of the lowest carbon footprints in the egg industry

about us – always first in the field
When we began, we didn’t just want to produce free range eggs, we wanted to be at the leading edge of ethical egg production and care for the environment. That’s why we strive every day to make a difference.
Preening our feathers isn’t our style, but we are proud of the fact we are innovative, have worked hard and invested in our ethical business. Embracing our principals we have come a long way and are pleased to remain first in many fields:
1st for the Environment
- We were the 1st to have Govt approved environmental improvement schemes with bio-diversity improvement plans on all our farms
- We have one of the lowest carbon foot prints in the egg industry
- All our egg boxes are made from 100 % recycled paper
- We started building naturally ventilated, energy efficient hen house units before anyone else – and that’s the only kind we like to build
- We were the first to start planting native trees to promote indigenous wildlife and improve the free range habitat for our hens – this began over a decade ago and our farmers continue to plant on every farm today
- In 2006 we planted over 60,000 trees; in 2007 we planted over 100 acres in just one week! In the last decade we have planted 10’s of thousands of trees – many of our earliest trees are now quite mature and working for the environment
- We are the ONLY egg company in the country which requires its farmers to have a Bio-diversity Action Plan in place and plant trees, hedges or wildlife areas to improve the environment
1st for innovation
- We opened the 1st dedicated packing station for ethically produced, welfare friendly free range eggs over 10 years ago
- Launched the first "trace your egg" for all the eggs we produce, allowing customers to trace their egg back to the farm that produced it
- We were the 1st to print farm of origin on eggs
- Natures Nest Eggs are printed with farm origin before they leave the farm – gauranteeing authenticity
- We introduced cool storage on farm to maximise quality
- First to vaccinate all our birds against both common Salmonellas associated with eggs
- First Egg Company to be accredited with Investors in People
1st for Impact
- We have one of the lowest carbon foot prints in the egg industry
- We have the strictest supplier entry conditions in the industry
- We are leading edge in educating our farmer suppliers
- We have only ever produced and packed ethical eggs
- We still believe in small flocks and maintain an average of 5,500 birds
- Our eggs reach retailers within 2 – 3 days of being laid
- 1st to employ full time trainers who are part of Government approved schemes
- We are leading edge in educating our farmer suppliers in animal welfare, technical development, range enrichment and environmental impact
