Our ethics impacts all our hens

our ethics – Natures Nest – producers of ethical eggs

Our ethos is based around ethical production of free range eggs and we are proud of the rules we live by.

When you care about your environment, animal welfare and the farmers who support you, producing ethical eggs comes naturally, which is why for every dozen eggs sold we invest 1p in wildlife preservation.
We care about the impact our business has on the environment and aim to leave the world a better place when we leave. To achieve this we maintain the policies we created when we first started out and continue to help our producers understand how they can also make a difference.

Our carbon footprint

We aim to reduce our carbon footprint to the absolute minimum by use of design, technology and efficiency of operation and we have one of the lowest carbon footprints of any egg producer in the country.

Example: The hen houses producing Natures Nest eggs must be naturally ventilated reducing dust and noise impact on the environment and improving their energy efficiency by up to 70%. We were one of the first to introduce this type of housing.

Environmental Policy

We want to counter any negative effect of our operation through the continuous process of tree planting and wildlife habitat enrichment.

We can leave the world and its environment a better place and encourage others to follow the same path.

Example: Every Natures Nest farm has a tailored range enrichment scheme that is implemented and assessed each year in conjunction with the Farm Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG – independent national experts on wildlife and the environment).

We have been first in the field for Environmental support in many ways click here to find out more.

Welfare Policy

We are proud to work with some of the best feathered, best cared for happiest hens in the UK. This can only be achieved through use of best practice, design and technology. It requires support for training and involvement in research and welfare development. These things we do constantly.

Example: All farmer producers have completed food hygiene and welfare training schemes and comply with the strictest codes of practice in animal welfare and food hygiene. We were the first to employ full time trainers who are part of government approved schemes.

Wildlife Support

In the last decade we have planted many thousands of trees and bushes, enriching the wildlife habitat and embracing Biodiversity schemes. We have so far raised wildlife awareness and benefits on some 10 000 acres of UK farmland. Our aim is always more.

Example: We were the first to start planting native trees to promote indigenous wildlife and improve the free range habitat for our hens – this began over a decade ago and our farmers continue to plant on every farm today.

We are the ONLY egg company in the country which requires its farmers to have a Bio-diversity Action Plan in place and plant trees, hedges or wildlife areas to improve the environment.
