Did you know that one Oak tree can support about 290 species of insects compared to just 16 on fir trees?

our producers – Welcome to David & Helen’s Farm
Egg Code: 1UK10332
The hen that laid your egg lives on David and Helen’s farm near Penrith in the Lake District. These are very lucky and happy hens who have one of the best views of the Lake District Hills.
About the farmers
David grew up on the mixed family farm among dairy cows, beef cattle and sheep. Both David and Helen are passionate about animal welfare so when they introduced hens just over 21 years ago, they were, of course, free range. The whole family are involved with caring for their birds – and that includes their 4 young daughters.
Creating the right environment for happy hens
Because David and Helen have very high regard for their hens and their environment and have planted over 40000 trees around their farm in the last 10 years. That’s over 25 acres of woodland for their happy workers to roam, roost and forage in with a safe canopy of tree cover protecting them from predators and encouraging them to explore.
Planting:
Mainly native trees including Oak, Ash and Elm which also helps improve the habitat for insects, animals and plants. Some of these trees are now approaching 6 metres tall and provide a closed canopy for many types of wildlife to utilise and the open glades encourage woodland flowers, insects and butterflies.
